Poetry for Kids

carrie_heyesCarrie Heyes is Canadian, but let’s not hold that against her.

Who is Carrie Heyes? She was born on September 17th, she has two older sisters and has a bunny named Lucy. All that and she writes Poetry for children.

Carrie Heyes Doopod: Poetry for Kids is a podcast of short poems, each one lasting from 30 seconds to a minute and a half. With titles such as Fighting, Whistling, and S’mores, the poems are little creative snippets of childhood. While I don’t pretend to know anything about poetry, I do know that I enjoyed listening to these.

Like I said, the poems are short, maybe too short. I found myself wanting to hear another one and having to go back to my iPod and scroll down to the next one, over and over again. After listening to about 10 of these, I was wishing that they could be grouped into 5 or 10-minute bundles.  Then, I thought, these would be nice as part of a larger children’s podcast, with Carries poems as part of a larger work.

At the same time, I found these short podcast a refreshing change from the 60 plus minute shows I usually listen to.

These shows don’t seem to be released on anytime of a regular schedule, which is fine for what they are. Better for Carrie to publish a poem when she is ready, rather than rushing shows, trying to keep up with a schedule.

According to Carries website, most of these poems are based on her childhood and I think it shows. There seems to be some honesty to them. If you have young kids, or even if you don’t, why not give a few of these poems a try,

BTW, I have nothing against Canadians.
