The Something Live Podcast Review

something_liveRequest from P.J. Shapiro of The Something Live podcast.

Hi. I recently found The Podcast Place, and I wanted to submit my show, called Something Live, for your consideration. The show is centered around live musical performances recorded at The Cantab Lounge in Cambridge Massachusetts, and interviews with various guest artists. The music is mostly folk, acoustic, blues, traditional and Americana.

While there are not new episodes of Something Live very often, I can assure you that it is still in production, and that a new show will be up soon.

Thanks.

I love good live acoustic music but unfortunately, being out in the far Chicago suburbs, I don’t get a change very often to go hear live acoustic music. As soon as I receive this podcast review request from P.J., I downloaded two episodes and loved both of them.

Now, if you’re the type who wants to hear distortion and screaming, loud electrical mayhem, this podcast is not for you. For the most part these are simple, acoustic songs, mostly folk music from what I heard. Both shows start with a few songs done at The Cantab Lounge. After that, Mr. Shapiro interviews one of the artists, who also play a tune or two, and them its back to the live tracks at the lounge. I loved it.

The sound quality and recordings were exceptional and P.J. did a great job of both introducing the music and interviewing the artists. Each show is between 30 and 45 minutes. If I had one bit of criticism with the show it would be the frequency in which they are produced. For a while there seemed to be monthly but there are other times when 3 to 5 months can go by without a new show. This, of course, might because a new show can only be produced when a new session at the Cantab takes place, I don’t know. This is only a minor complaint, as subscribers will get them when they come.

If folk, acoustic and blues music, done on the stage, sometimes with nothing more than one acoustic guitar (or sometimes not even that), this is a show I would recommend you give it a chance.
